The data deal
Here’s exactly what you’re signing up for when you use the iScaleMerch Chrome extension and the tools on iScaleNiches. No buried terms, no dark patterns. If you don’t like the deal, don’t use the tool.
What we collect
When you’re signed in and browsing Amazon with the iScaleMerch extension active, we collect the following from each product you or the scanner pulls up:
- ASIN (the public Amazon product identifier)
- Product title, brand / storefront name, image URL
- Best Sellers Rank (BSR) and the date we observed it
- “Date first available” as shown on Amazon
- Price as listed at the time of observation
- The search keyword you were on when we saw the product (for attribution)
What we don’t collect
- Your Amazon account, credentials, order history, or addresses.
- Anything outside Amazon — we never read other tabs or your browsing history at large.
- Personal data beyond your iScaleLabs account ID needed to authenticate the upload. Contribution rows themselves are stripped of your user ID before going into the shared pool.
Why we collect it
The iScaleMerch extension is free because the data it collects powers iScaleNiches — a shared pool of Amazon Merch-by-Demand research that anyone can browse. Trending niches, BSR history charts, keyword performance. You contribute to the pool while you work, and you pull from the pool when you research. Two-sided value exchange.
Who sees what
- Aggregated product data (ASINs, titles, BSR history) is publicly readable on iScaleNiches. That’s the whole point.
- Your personal scan history (saved niches, private notes) stays private — gated by your iScaleLabs login, never mixed into the shared pool.
- We do not sell personally identifiable data. The business model is selling access to the aggregate pool, not selling “you.”
Retention
Product rows and BSR observations are retained indefinitely while the product is active on Amazon. We may roll up older BSR history into weekly or monthly averages after 90 days to keep the data store efficient. Products that disappear from Amazon remain in our archive unless we decide otherwise.
Your choice
Using the iScaleMerch extension while signed in means you accept this data deal. There is no opt-out toggle — the tool is funded by the pool, and a partial opt-out would break the exchange for everyone else. If the deal doesn’t work for you, uninstall the extension. No hard feelings, no dark patterns in the way.
